Housemates are back!
This of course has the distinct disadvantage of me not being able to walk around the house naked. (Ok I think I’ve pretty much done that joke to death now). Of course the positive side is that my housemates are back and the place is much less lonely.
As for what I’m up to, well my goal to get a motorbike license (I’m sure I mentioned this before) is slowly progressing. I have to get a learner’s permit, simply because a motorbike license is more involved than getting a car license. As Joe explained to me, a car is easier to drive, one example he gave me was what position you take on the road.
With a car it’s easy, make sure the car is in the middle of the road, with a bike however you gotta ride left of the center. Simply because oil on the road collects at the center of the lanes, oil on tires == bad. Anyway, I now have to get a day off work and make my way to a licensing centre and take the learners exam.
I won’t bother studying for it, the learners exams would be easy, since I know the road rules already. The next problem is going to be getting to the lessons. Joe recommended Alert Motorcycle School so that’s where I’ll head. $45 per 1 hr lesson, hopefully I can pick it up with a few lessons.
So hopefully in a month or so I’ll have a new license with two new letters on it (RE).
The greatest mistake a person can make, is not to learn from their mistakes. – Orko 29-01-2003
I’m pretty sure something like this has been said before by people more wiser than I. However since I don’t know who they are, I’ve credited myself, it’s a bit of wisdom I’ve known for ages.
Like all bits of wisdom though, you don’t actually learn until you make the mistake. The human brain is designed to learn via experience, read how to ride a bike all you like, you won’t actually be able to ride one unless you get on one and fail until you learn.
Given recent events, I’ve learned much, and unfortunately can’t undo past mistakes. But that’s not important anymore, what is important is that I learn from them.
To do something stupid once is understandable, to keep doing it is idiotic.
Edit:
It’s actually an old Latin quote by someone call Seneca, which is as follows:
Errare humanum est, in errore perservare tultum.
This translates to:
It is human to make a mistake, it is stupid to persist on it.
Yes! The long weekend is here!
Which for me means, 4 day weekend! As is my custom, I’ve gotten the day after the long weekend off as well, which means I can party pretty hard and recover Tuesday and only have to work for 3 days. 4 day weekend, 3 day week, I like those odds.
Once again I will take the chance here to say Information Society‘s album Don’t Be Afraid
is a cool album. Right now I’m listening to their (his) cover version of Are ‘Friends’ Electric? 2.0
.
I also got a phone call from my mate Ben, my on the spot reporter in Japan. He’s been having an interesting time drinking it up and singing karakoe, basically punking around. It’s been awhile since I’ve heard his voice on the phone, so I was wondering who the fuck I was talking to for 20 seconds.
While talking to him he also relayed the sad news that Bart, one of his dogs had passed away a few months ago. A dog I’ve known since it was a puppy and I was at high school, even though Bart was never my dog I do feel a bit sad, since I’ve seen him and his sister Puddin (whose still alive and lively) grow up. He’ll be missed.
Like all people, I do have the occasion moments where I sit down and wonder what exactly I’m doing with my life. (Yes, sorry to shatter the illusion, here have a bit of fluff.) Where I’ve been, what I’ve done and what I’m going to do. I’ve never doubted what I wanted. Though there was one whipped cream incident where I thought buying a life-sized Russian Doll would be a neat idea.
But overall I’ve known exactly what I’ve wanted and I’ve got it. Of course some things are a work in progress (Dodge Viper woooo), but I will get it eventually. Anyway, recently there’s just one bit of my life I’m just not sure on. You think, Yes that’s what I want, gimme that life-sized Michael Bolton cardboard cutout
and you have people telling you it’s a bad idea.
You know that the reward outweights the risk though, after all talking Michael Bolton cutouts are hard to find. I’m not sure what I’m saying here, I’m not even sure why I’m saying it here either. But since I don’t have a diary this is as good a place as any.
Went to Vibes on Sunday. Wasn’t really too impressed by it to be honest, the best music to be found was the tent. Of course this was probably due to the fact I was very tired from Friday and Saturday at the time.
Just couldn’t seem to get into the groove at all. However Australia Day (27th of January for you that don’t know) should hopefully see a more energetic me getting out and about, drinking much of the sweet, sweet, bourbon. Maybe even scotch and what not.
Also I’ve been thinking ahead and have got Tuesday off. My drawing is progressing slowly, and I’ve yet to find out about Japanese lessons.
Until next time…
It’s pretty interesting that a song’s lyrics could be about one subject, but it could also be taken to be talking about something else. But then again, it’s a matter of content versus context I suppose. In Information Society’s song The Ridge 1.1
I’m pretty sure the lyrics are about drug addiction. However, they could also describe other situations. I suppose the point of the song is not necessarily about drug addiction.
Perhaps more of any struggle where a person is trapped. I’m just reading more into it I suppose, but both Don’t Be Afraid
and VAST
are my current albums I love to listen to at the moment.
In other news, I’m finally going to get my hair cut and dyed today, I was a bit slack last weekend, in money saving mode at the moment. But my hair has got to the “long, but not really long” stage. And for my hair that means it’s messy.
OggVorbis is better than mp3. That’s pretty much it a nutshell, better design, better handling of songname tags, etc, better compression, just better.
The real thing though that made me rerip my CDs to Vorbis though, is the fact I can rip a CD that has tracks that run into each other and there’s no annoying pause or click between tracks. This means I don’t have to rip CDs as one huge mp3 and use the WinAmp 2 mp3cue plugin. It also means I can start using WinAmp 3.
I felt she ment it both literally and ironically
and so I was poised between love and fear
but it was in this way that I came to be aware of the tower
and came to see the microwaves
and was able to see the base of things which was out of alignment
and this is when I first knew
that everything was wrong.
Updated the layout of the web page. Looking much better than it was before, however there seems to be a problem with using a stylesheet class with setting a <DIV> tag background (the title image). Shows up fine in Mozilla but only shows half the image in IE. Ain’t non conforming browsers great?
Went to see Regurgitator at Paddington Ale House last night. Fucking great! That’s the two words to describe it. Brilliant with the crowd, and I knew the words to all the songs except for two.
Plus it’s probably one of the few events that jumping up and down on the spot could be considered dancing. Didn’t play anything new, just songs from their albums, Tu – Plang
, Unit
and Eduardo and Rodriguez Wage War On T-Wrecks
.
The really cool bit, as Aroha pointed out, was the grey haired asian woman who was Quan’s mother. That’s just cool damn it.
Anyway, I would see them again next time they’re in Perth, and for $20 is was value for money.
