I kinda knew my brake pads need replacing a few days ago when the stopping power of my car seemed a bit…. low. I didn’t know how quickly they needed replacing until yesterday, when I started getting that metal on metal grinding noise. And so I replaced them, and the pads that were in there were rather interesting, I really don’t know the last time they were replaced. I’m guessing not for awhile…

Interesting article for programmers, The Free Lunch Is Over. Basically CPUs are starting to hit a wall with raw clock speeds, and other techniques need to be found to get more performance, basically this is what Hyperthreading, etc, are trying to do. Read the article if you’re interested in such things, otherwise don’t.
I’m not really a fount of huge comic book knowledge, I mean I know the usual, X-Men, Spiderman, The Hulk, etc. And I’m a fan of the original Firestorm character, but outside of that my knowledge of comics, and comicstrips is lacking. However, there are 3 webcomics that I read daily. Penny Arcade, PVP Online, and Mega Tokyo.
Anyway, apparently there’s this strip in the US called Non Sequitur. The first I ever heard about it was because Scott Kurtz, the author of PVP Online, was basically attacked by this guy. (Actually, I just tried linking to the comic, and I can’t! Since it’s older than 14 days you have to sign up to get it, fuck that). Anyway, a good write up of the situation can be found on Websnark.
And now he’s taken a shot at webcomics again (just a warning, that link might not work in 14 days time). Well, fuck you Mr Wiley. You’re basically taking a shot at any web-based medium, including blogs. By no means do I consider myself “published”, but fuck it, at least 1 or 2 people might accidentally read my webpage (about 1 or 2 words before they realise their error). My point? Actually I don’t think I have one, except I really don’t like this “higher than thou” attitude this old fart I’ve never heard of before has.
Anyway, for your homework today read this response from Gabe from Penny Arcade, and also Checkerboard Nightmare.
The subject says it all really.
